The ICC T20 World Cup 2020 began Friday night and is now well and truly underway. Friday night’s opener provided the tournament with a big upset, India proving too good for hosts Australia, but the match drew a sensational crowd of 13,432, setting a new record attendance for a women’s cricket match in Australia.
Over the last fews days we’ve seen the West Indies defeat Thailand by 7 wickets, New Zealand defeat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets and Australia fight back despite a rocky start to claim victory over Sri Lanka in Perth.
Bobby Macumber, our cricket expert, set out to learn more about some of the captains of the world’s best cricketing nations, discovering what they love about touring Australia, which Aussie cricketers thy admire (and those that irritate them!) and we have found we might need to create an Aussie music Spotify playlist for some captains too!

MACUMBER: Who is your favourite Aussie player and why?
LANNING: Karen Rolton – she was ahead of her time, her ball striking took the game to another level.
KNIGHT: Erin Burns – all round legend.
DEVINE: Megan Schutt (Shooter) – Have played a lot of cricket alongside and against Shooter and think she is the ultimate competitor. But probably more important is she’s a great human off the park.
TIPPOCH: Meg Lanning, because she is so cool, calm and collected when she is on the field and calm when she is batting.
KATUN: Ellyse Perry – She is a fighter
VAN NEIKIRK: Pez (Ellyse Perry) – Just what she has achieved in her career and how she goes about it. True professional and great person as well.
MAROOF: Meg Lanning because of her batting skills.
KAUR: Glen Maxwell is my personal favourite.

LANNING: Don’t have one.
KNIGHT: Nicola Carey – She went a bit weird and zen when she got into Buddhism at the end of the WBBL.

MAROOF: Alyssa Healy – She scores a lot against us.

MACUMER: If you make the final, who do you think you’ll play?
LANNING: India – They have numerous match winners
DEVINE: South Africa – Currently playing in a bi-lateral series and think they are going to be a serious contender at the WC. They are a dangerous T20 outfit.
TIPPOCH: Australia are in pretty good form and I’m a big fan. It would be really cool if we get to play finals against them!
VAN NEIKIRK: I said at the Captains media day that I think Australia, but I also think New Zealand is a really explosive team at the moment. So would be between Australia and New Zealand.
KAUR: If we make it to the finals, I guess we will play against Australia
