As one of three successful applicants for Siren’s Emerging Sports Writer Program next round, in partnership with Football Victoria, we’re excited to welcome Sienna Nobile.
What motivated you to apply for this program?
Sienna Nobile: I have always wanted to be involved in sports media, specifically Australian football, as I have been a lifelong player and devoted fan of the sport. Combining my love of writing and my love of football, this program seemed to be a perfect fit for me.
Why are you passionate about women in sport?
SN: I am passionate because I have struggled to be a female football player in both local and metro leagues due to the lack of funding for female teams and the absence of respect towards female athletes. The male-to-female player ratio across all sports should be equal, but instead, there is a significant difference.
What do you hope to achieve from this program?
SN: I hope to achieve great experience as an emerging writer, begin to create a name for myself, and make lots of connections in the world of sports media.
What are you most excited to write about for Siren as part of this program?
SN: I am most excited to write about the achievements of women in sport in Australia and acknowledge the hardship that we face in both professional and amateur settings.
