ROUND 8
Melbourne Vixens v NSW Swifts
- This is a huge top of the table clash, playing for the Sargeant McKinnis Cup and also top spot on the ladder coming into the business end of season.
- The Vixens retain their top of the ladder position after a win in Round 7, with the highlight being Emily Mannix’s Nissan Player of the Match performance involving eight intercepts, one less than her league record.
- After a win against the Lightning, Swifts captain Maddy Proud will be rallying her squad to continue their winning momentum for Nat Haythornthwaite’s 150th game.
Collingwood Magpies v GIANTS Netball
- Both sides need a very strong run home in order to qualify for finals.
- The Magpies remain on the bottom of the ladder with one win after a tough game in Round 7.
- The GIANTS notched their second win of the season with a one-point victory in Round 7, so they will use that confidence to come out all guns blazing.
Queensland Firebirds v Adelaide Thunderbirds
- The Firebirds are coming off the back of a devastating one-point loss and will will be looking to rectify the way they close out tight matches.
- The Thunderbirds showed against the Vixens that they can match it with the best, proving to be real finals contenders if they can notch this win and edge back into the top four.
- The Firebirds haven’t beaten the Thunderbirds since Round 13 in 2018.
West Coast Fever v Sunshine Coast Lightning
- The Fever were a force in Round 7, and with shooter Jhaniele Fowler at her best with 62 goals and captain Courtney Bruce dominating defence with six intercepts, they moved into the top four.
- For Fever to remain in contention for the top three, they need to beat the Lightning who are currently sitting ahead of them in third with two more wins.
- Lightning have the upper hand on the Fever in recent history with the Fever having not defeated the Lightning since Round 10 in 2018.
