Meet Tanvi Maheshwari, our latest Siren X Deakin Intern

Deakin University student Tanvi Maheshwari is the successful candidate for our latest intern intake through our Deakin work integrated learning partnership.

Through the Deakin University X Siren Sport Work Integrated Learning placement program we give interns the opportunity to develop skills in interviewing, writing and editing, as well as learning brand management through social media and marketing. Upon completion of a 100-hour program, students will have not only learned some new skills, they will have developed a portfolio of work to add to their resume as they look to enter the workforce.

We’d like to introduce new intern, Tanvi Maheshwari, to our Siren community so you can learn more about her, the passion she has for the women in sports space, and what we’ll be looking to give to support her higher education journey and her career goals.

We’re looking forward to working with Tanvi and sharing her work with you all!

What degree are you studying at Deakin University?

I am currently pursuing a Master of Film and Television at Deakin University.

What was it about the opportunity to intern with Siren that made you want to apply for this position?

Coming from a media background, what drew me most to Siren is the strong feminist energy and purpose driven approach the company embodies. In a traditionally male-dominated industry, Siren represents a powerful platform that amplifies women’s voices, and that deeply resonates with me. As an international student, I’ve always been keen to understand the Australian media and sports journalism landscape, and this internship feels like the perfect entry point to do just that. The alignment of Siren’s values with my own aspirations makes this an exciting opportunity for both personal and professional growth.

What are you most keen to learn while at Siren to assist with your degree and your future career?

With a Bachelor’s in Animation and VFX, two years of professional post-production experience, and now a Master’s in Film and Television, I see this internship as a way to bridge my academic knowledge with real-world media practices. I’m especially interested in enhancing my skills in storytelling, editing, and content creation within the sports media context. I hope to explore the technical and editorial nuances of working in sports journalism, while also learning how to craft compelling narratives that spotlight women in sport. Ultimately, I want to gain the kind of hands on experience that will equip me for a creative role in sports broadcasting, production, or commentary in the future.

What is it about women’s sports that you are passionate about?

I’ve always admired the discipline, resilience, and spirit of athletes, and women in sport often showcase with extraordinary grace. I’m particularly drawn to women’s voices behind the scenes — especially commentators who bring the game to life. One such inspiration for me is Sanjana Ganesan. Her fearless presence and confident storytelling style have truly made an impact on how I see sports media. Women’s sports tell powerful stories of overcoming barriers, and being part of that narrative is something I’m deeply passionate about.

What would you like to see change about women’s sports and sports media?

I strongly believe in equality, respect, and recognition – values that still need broader implementation across the sports media industry. While we’ve made progress, there’s still a noticeable gap in media coverage, visibility, and resources between men’s and women’s sports. I’d like to see more women in leadership and production roles, and a media culture that doesn’t just feature women, but truly celebrates their contributions without bias or tokenism. Most importantly, I hope for a future where female athletes and commentators are given equal platforms, visibility, and respect for the skill and expertise they bring to the field.
